Generally, I am skeptical of finding good Japanese food in downtown San Francisco near Union Square. My sense was that “those restaurants” near Union Square were primarily for tourists and, hence, not as good for a local like myself.
I was wrong.
On a recent Friday night, we found ourselves looking for a place to grab dinner near Union Square. My husband loves Japanese food (as I do), so we walked into Kojima-Ann Japanese Restaurant in downtown San Francisco. We were seated right away by the window and I was having a good feeling about this.
I ordered the Nabe Yaki Udon ($10.95). It was served blazing hot and I found it to be delicious and filling. My husband had the Tempura Don ($9.95), which is served with miso soup, and was also quite good. The plum wine was nicely cold, as I like it, and the hot sake (for my husband) was good.
Dojima-Ann Japanese Restaurant is open 7 days a week from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. They are located at 219 O’Farrell Street just off the Powell street cable car line. The staff was friendly and efficient and the food was excellent. I would definitely dine here again.
